The bathroom door needed finshing, so Kimura dropped by on another trip to Kyoto and sorted the sliding mechanism out.

There’s a small deck out the back of the house next to the bathroom. The bathroom lights are underneath the windowsills so it looks really pretty at night, even in the rain. We finished the outside of the bathroom wall with beige coloured plaster and a strip of bamboo.

The upstairs rooms are usually divided by sliding doors, but here an old screen (byobu) with calligraphic painting fit perfectly in the space.

A view of the kitchen/dining area looking towards the back of the house. We put in an old pair of traditional sliding doors (which were originally front doors) below the ranma (carved piece). They allow you to view the garden from the living room. The bathroom is on the right, with the arched doorway. The kitchen is to the left, next to the white sliding doors.

The Second of February- an good day as any other to celebrate the near completion of Bamboo house’s makeover. There are still a few walls left to paint, shelves to put up, the kitchen to sort out and a lot of cleaning to do but Bamboo house has a lovely cute bathroom and toilet, strong secure walls, ceilings and floor, and a verandah with the best view in town!

今日は大感謝パーテイ。そろそろ完成すると信じられないなー！まだ大そうじが必要ですが、かわいくて茶室っぽいのお風呂場と、丈夫な壁や天井、床で、京都の最高にきれいなながめ風景が見えるベランダーが出来あがって、びっくりしました。。。

Katsuyoshi working like the devil- as always! He managed to finish the ceiling of the front room and fit a beautiful sunken footwell (a horikotatsu) in one afternoon. It was his last day working on the house and I really appreciate his precision and diligent work ethic.

川村様はいつも一所懸命に働いてくれました。３時間の間で楽に天井も彫りこたつも仕上がり、本当にかんどうしました！

There isn’t a picture of me covered in plaster, owing to the danger to my camera, as that stuff gets everywhere and then you can’t wash it off. I’ve got a very stylish wine coloured zip up nylon outfit to wear while I slap on the whte stuff like a kid in a playground. It’s fun!
